Canon Picture Styles are set in your Canon camera and are useful to get the desired photo look out of the box. You get this by tweaking color and other settings. Are available from Canon, a default set is already available on any Canon DSLR. Additional Picture Styles can be from Canon. A quick guide on settings and customization is also. So what are Canon Picture Styles about?
I just noticed Canon has 7 picture style files available on their Japan site (on an English language page too, fortunately). I have seen 4 of these mentioned on other sites, but it looks like there are 3 others that have not caught anybody's attention yet. Canon Picture Styles are customizable presets built into the camera that apply in-camera processing to your photos. Think of Picture Styles as in-camera Photoshopping of your photos. Each Canon DSLR comes with either six or seven picture styles installed from the factory plus space for three user-defined picture styles.
